Karate Kids at Blue Wave

Receiving Her White BeltDeveloping  the Whole Child - Mind, Body, Spirit.

Karate Kids is a specialized program we designed to teach martial arts for children ages 5 to 10. It is a dynamic blend of learning martial art skills, figuring out life lessons, and a big dose of active fun. Every class contains elements to make your child concentrate and remember. Every class is a full hour of fun and sweaty skill building. And, every class has a goal of helping your child feel proud of their accomplishments.

How will Karate Kids Benefit my Child?

Karate Kids Front Kick

By challenging their concentration skills your child will learn that it is rewarding to learn new things. This helps validate what you are telling them about doing their homework and getting good grades. By persisting through fatigue your child will learn that getting tired is just a normal part of becoming skilled. This helps in every single sport. And by overcoming obstacle after obstacle your child will learn the confidence associated with success. This is probably the single biggest life lesson we teach and will help your child for the rest of their life!

Will Karate Kids Help with Fitness?

One of the biggest hazards all children face today is the overwhelming array of activity choices that keep them sitting in front of an electronic screen. In Karate Kids we get your child up and involved for the entire hour. When they are having fun participating in the games and drills we do your child will get accustomed to how it feels to try hard and keep at it for extended periods. Learning to be active at an early age will give them the edge to stay healthy into adulthood. And, by learning martial art techniques that require precision and power you child will develop strength, balance and coordination. All of which will come in handy forever.

What About Bullies and Self-Defense?

Bullies tend to pick on kids that are NOT confident or energetic. Martial Arts training will make your child a power plant of energy and confidence. They will learn the self-assurance that they need to walk away from bullies, to run away from danger, and to get help when they need it. And, while we always believe that every person should oppose wrong doing and stand up for themselves, we also hope that violence is the last resort.

Karate Kids Having Fun!

Will my Child Have Fun?

Fun is what keeps the kids wanting to come to class and actively participate!  And it is their consistent attendance that keeps them motivated to reach their next goal. It is important to us that your child have an exciting experience here so that they leave with a smile on their face but also we want that energy to translate into a desire to move forward in their martial art training and in their lives. A big part of this is the camaraderie that happens as a natural part of the class. These in-class friendships are a super motivator for kids and can be one of the best benefits of Tae Kwon Do training.

Karate Kids is SUCCESS ORIENTED!

Karate Kids Learning Skills

Success requires determination and patience. We want the kids to learn patience and we hope that parents are patient with their kids as they progress. Our plan is to patiently help your son or daughter develop into a fantastic adult. We also hope that they have the drive and determination to achieve their Black Belt. But there are many other signs of success. For some kids that sign will be an increased sense of confidence or better performance in school. For others it will be the chance to make the basketball team because of their newfound coordination. Please let us know what you want and hope for with your child. That will become important to us too!

Q: Can my child try out a class before we commit to it?

A: Absolutely! We offer a free trial class to any first-timers, so feel free to pick a class time and day that works best for you and stop on by!

Q: What should my child wear to classes?

A: If it's your first time in class, have him/her wear something comfortable that they can move around easily in. If you are planning on staying in classes, then we have uniforms for sale at the studio. Oh, and don't worry about shoes  because they won't need them!

Q: Are there any contracts?

A: No! We do not have contracts for Blue Wave's programs; we offer month-to-month payments.

Q: What form of Karate do you practice?

A: Our style at Blue Wave is Tae Kwon Do.

Q: How often should I train?

A: Our packages are unlimited to the number of classes you choose to attend, but it is typical to come 2-3 times a week based on your child's energy and focus.

Q: Who is Karate Kids for?

A: Our Karate Kids program is for children ages 5-10 who are interested in training to become successful in martial arts and in life. No special skill or ability is required - just the desire to try.

Q: Who is the Instructor?

A: Master David Blevins (a 6th degree Black Belt) is the head instructor and leads classes. For more information on Master Blevins Click HERE. We also always have 2 or 3 other Black Belts in class to help out so that each child has the best possible experience.

Q: How many kids are in each class?

A: Classes range from 10-30 students. This class size isn't overwhelming, so your child is still able to get the social experience that they need at their young age. And we teach in groups or segments so that your child is in with other kids of about the same age and experience level.

Q: What age is appropriate for my child to start Karate Kids?

A: The typical age to start is around 5, but there are always exceptions for 4 and 4 1/2 year olds. If your child is younger than 5, then bring them in to try out a free class to see if Karate Kids is a good fit for them!

Q: Can I stay and watch my child train?

A: Of course! At Blue Wave's studio we have plenty of chairs and space for you to sit and enjoy watching your child train and succeed.

Q: What will my child gain from class?

A: Your child will learn discipline, confidence, and skills for self-defense. Additionally, your child will have fun and create great memories that will last a lifetime!
