Proper Kickboxing Side Kick - Tanya
From Blue Wave Martial Arts and Fitness, this is Tanya demonstrating proper side kick technique. To get started, the most important thing about a sidekick is the way you pick your knee up and extend your leg out. Pick your knee straight up towards your chin and then turn your hips and extend your leg all the way out, straight each time. When she extends that leg she's got her leg nice and locked, her foot is pulled back and her ankle is flexed tight. She's doing that so that when she does a sidekick on the target, she can strike with her heel. To do a side kick without taking a step, Tanya is picking her knee up, and she's got a nice four count action where she goes up, out, back and down. Now, she's going to add a step to that, so she's putting her foot down in place and steps back, then she steps towards the bag and does her sidekick. If you want a little extra workout when you do this, step back you can add a squat to this routine.
